The fourth-seeded St John’s Jaguars varsity boys hoop team opened league tournament play with a win on Monday.
St. John’s rolled over No. 5 Oakstone Academy, 42-30.
The Jaguars forced numerous turnovers to start the game with their full-court press.
That led to a 25-13 lead by halftime.
The third quarter was much the same, as the Jags climbed to a 39-19 margin.
The Jags relaxed their press during the final stanza.
St. John’s finished with a balanced scoring attack.
Blake Gorton, Jackson Burns and Lincoln Thrush each tallied nine points.
Logan Landry chipped in eight, Mac Rausch notched three and Nate Fisher and Gianni Russo both added two.
The varsity Jaguars will take on top-seeded Grace Christian this evening.
The junior varsity Jaguars earned recent victories over Columbus Academy (35-13), Tree of Life (38-11) and Northside Christian (32-27).
The JV Jags have now won 10 consecutive games, after losing their first contest of the season.
