The St John’s boys basketball team escaped with a 30-29 overtime victory over Genoa Christian on Monday.
The game was tight, with neither team holding more than a six-point lead.
In the overtime, Connor Boyd nailed a key trifecta to give the Jags a three-point lead.
That was followed by an old-fashioned three-point play by Jackson Burns, leading to a six-point cushion.
After cutting the margin to three, Genoa was fouled on a three-point attempt. Genoa hit two free throws, leaving a 30-29 edge for the Jaguars with 25 seconds left.
Genoa was later able to get the ball down court quickly, but its shot attempt was blocked to basically end the game.
Burns led Jaguars with eight points.
Blake Gorton and Boyd both had seven, Nate Fisher tallied six and Lincoln Thrush scored two.
