Jonathan Alder’s boys hoopsters ended the regular season on Tuesday with a 40-31 setback at the hands of Columbus Bishop Watterson.
JA (16-6) led 8-7 after the first period and took a 17-15 edge at halftime.
The game was still tight after three quarters with Alder up, 26-23.
The contest went south of the border for the Pioneers during the fourth set as Watterson tallied 17 points and limited the home team to five.
Jackson Izzard was the lone Pioneer in double figures with 13 points.
Alder will return to action on Monday when it hosts Licking Valley in the Division II tournament opener at 7 p.m.

Lady Cats fall
The season came to an end for North Union’s girls as they dropped a 52-26 verdict in the Division III tournament at Columbus Bishop Ready.
The Silver Knights held a 13-12 edge after the opening stanza, but then limited the Lady Cats’ offensive output the rest of the way.
Ready took a 29-19 margin at the turn and a 38-24 advantage into the final eight minutes of action.
NU, which ended the season at 7-16, was led by Jordyn Hoffman, who tallied nine points.

FHS girls end season
The No. 1-ranked team in the state of Ohio for Division III, Columbus Africentric, rolled to a 77-17 tournament triumph over Fairbanks’ girls.
The Nubians were in control the entire game, leading 30-6 after the opening period and 47-12 by halftime.
The Lady Panthers (who finished the season at 2-21) managed just five points during the second half.
Michaela Writesel scored 11 for FHS.

Triad girls drop game
The Triad Lady Cardinals’ season came to a close with a 62-43 loss to Fairlawn in sectional tournament play at Sidney High School.
Fairlawn scorched the nets with 40 points in the second half to break open a close game.
Cati LeVan led the Lady Cards with 21 points and senior Makenzie Cauley ended her career with a double-double, scoring 12 points and notching 15 rebounds.
Cauley also had six blocked shots.
Triad closed out the season with a 9-14 record.
