In a day packed with wrestling, Jonathan Alder saw a host of Pioneers earn a spot on the podium along with some Wildcats from North Union during the Central Buckeye Conference tournament.
Graham was crowned the champion by tallying 252.5 total team points.
Jonathan Alder earned a second-place finish as a team with 192 and Indian Lake came in third with 141.
North Union took ninth place, scoring 71.
The Pioneers saw 10 of their own grace the podium at Benjamin Logan for their respective performances.
The Wildcats had five of their grapplers earn the right to stand on the podium with some connecting with Pioneer matmen during the finals.
At 106 pounds, NU freshman Braedon Scowden finished in sixth place after falling to Northwestern’s Matthew Glispie by default.
A default is awarded if one of the competitors is unable to continue wrestling for any reason.
NU junior Trace Williams (113) finished in second place after falling to Graham sophomore Beric Jordan by a 28-12 technical fall.
JA junior Xavier Pierce (120) obtained second place after falling to Graham freshman Brogan Tucker by a 12-2 major decision.
Alder freshman Trenton Moodispaugh (126) finished in sixth place after falling to Shawnee senior Jordyn Dillavou.
NU senior Gabe Hansen took third place in that weight class after surpassing Kenton Ridge’s Tray Howard with a 17-7 major decision.
At 138 pounds, JA junior Eli Trbovich took fourth place after losing to London senior Tyjuan Jackson in a low scoring 2-1 decision.
Senior Pioneer Owen Crabtree (144) took second after falling to Graham senior Nolan Gessler with a pin in the third period.
Pioneer junior Oliver Byerly (150) was crowned the champ after defeating Graham sophomore Cameron Mockbee with a pin in the second period.
Accompanying Byerly, JA 157-pound senior Pryce Watson claimed first place after defeating Matthew Cox of Kenton Ridge with an 8-4 decision.
JA claimed another first place title with Anthony Kroninger. The freshman defeated Graham’s Chett Mannier with a tight 4-3 decision at 175 pounds.
At 190 pounds, JA senior Will Heisler defeated North Union senior Shan Swank with a second period pin. Swank took second place for the Wildcats.
At 215 pounds, JA sophomore Dom Kroninger took fourth place after falling to Benjamin Logan’s Matthew Creamer by a second period pin.
NU senior Brody Wilson was fifth in the weight class after pinning Bellefontaine’s Josh Steiner.
That verdict came during the third period.
At 285 pounds, JA junior Damon Hay took third place.
Hay defeated Indian Lakes Dylan Valerio with a pin in the second period.
