A 20-point first quarter sparked Marysville’s girls basketball team to a 45-39 triumph at DeSales on Tuesday.
MHS (4-1) held a 20-17 margin at the end of the opening period.
The offense stalled during the ensuing quarter and as a result, DeSales took a 28-25 lead at the half.
The Lady Monarchs ramped up their defense in the second half, limiting the Stallions to just 11 points.
MHS took a 33-32 edge into the fourth quarter.
Sarah O’Neil led Marysville, which will host Bishop Watterson this evening, with 19 points.

Pioneers triumph
Jonathan Alder’s boys upped their record to 4-0 with a 66-27 victory over Franklin Heights.
The Falcons managed only six points during the first half as JA climbed to a 34-6 advantage at the turn.
The Pioneers, who will travel to Graham on Friday, took a 47-15 margin into the final period.
Jacob Koenig led JA with 14 points, while Henry Walker tossed in 13.

Lady Cats roll
to victory
North Union’s girls improved to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference with a 59-21 romp over Galion.
NU shut out the Tigers’ offense during the initial quarter and took an overwhelming 29-3 advantage at halftime.
The Lady Cats coasted to the victory by outscoring Galion 30-18 during the second half.
Journey Blevins led NU, which will travel to Marion Harding on Friday, with 18 points.

Monarchs triumph
Marysville’s eighth-grade boys Blue hoop squad downed Hilliard Heritage, 38-31.
Josh Lim led the 6-0 Monarchs with 17 points and Gabe Powers finished with 15.
The Monarchs will travel to Delaware on Thursday.
