Marysville’s girls varsity basketball team took its first lead of the night at 40-38 when Cassidy Francisco hit a basket with 2.5 seconds left to play against Westerville North.
The outcome, however, was a heartbreaker for the Lady Monarchs as North’s Charisa Smith dropped in a 25-foot, three-pointer at the buzzer, which gave the Lady Warriors a 41-40 victory on Tuesday.
North climbed to a 14-5 lead by the end of the first quarter and took a 22-10 margin at halftime.
The Lady Monarchs (6-8) fought back to within 30-26 by the end of the third quarter.
The momentum continued to swing in Marysville’s way during the fourth period as Francisco (who led MHS with 13 points) gave the home team its only lead of the night.
Marysville will return to action at home on Friday against Hilliard Davidson.
