The Marysville High School and Bunsold Middle School cross-country teams competed at the Wapakoneta Night Meet on Saturday.
The Lady Monarchs placed first in the high school and middle school races.
Marysville’s varsity boys were fourth and the Bunsold boys placed second.
MHS’ varsity girls won their race with 46 points.
Lima Shawnee was second with 50, followed by Defiance-85, Kenton-120 and Delphos St. Johns-131 to round out the top five of the 12-team field.
Jacquelyn Witt of Marysville was the runner-up individual with a time of 19:48.
She was followed across the finish line by Bryn Hothem, fourth, 19:54; Katie Krueger, sixth, 20:03; Leanne Eichorn, 15th, 21:15; and Haley Cook, 19th, 21:22.
Defiance won the high school boys meet with 25 points.
Rounding out the top five of the 13-team meet were Bellefontaine-67, Shawnee-86, Marysville-99 and Parkway-161.
Tristan Karnes of Marysville was the second-place runner with a time of 16:23.
He was followed by Riley Karnes, 14th, 17:18; Brian Boston, 23rd, 17:57; Lane Coil, 34th, 18:26; and Jack Flanagan, 37th, 18:27.
Bunsold’s girls tallied 26 points to win their meet.
Delphos St. John’s was second in the eight-team competition with 57.
Emily Krueger of Bunsold was second in 12:36; followed by Bailey Gross, fourth, 12:47; Olivia Elliott, sixth, 13:48; Ava Elliott, eighth, 13:523; and Emeron Bautsch, 11th, 14:04.
Wapakoneta scored 52 points to win the middle school boys race.
The Monarchs tallied 82 for their runner-up spot out of nine teams.
KJ Ahern led Bunsold with a fifth-place clocking of 12:21.
He was followed by Dylan Garber, 17th, 12:41; Tyler Heap, 18th, 12:49; Zac Galvis, 21st, 12:53; and Blake Murgatroyd, 23rd, 12:54.
“Overall, it was a wonderful night for Monarch cross-country,” said coach Luke Sundermeier. “Seeing the Bunsold and high school teams cheer each other on was a lot of fun.
“Everyone competed hard and ran well after some big weeks of training,” he said. “In three of the four races, the Monarchs had the individual runner-up and the girls had a sweep of the team titles.
“Now, we’re looking to tighten up a few spaces in the pack and continue building fitness for the big goals ahead.”
