The 2023-24 girls basketball season ended much too soon for the Lady Monarchs of Marysville.
A loss in the Division I district finals to Columbus Bishop Watterson concluded the campaign with a 22-4 record for the team.
Head coach Klarke Ransome and three of this year’s seniors, however, will have one more game together.
Ransome will coach the visiting team for the District 10 Division I All-Stars during a game that is set for Tuesday, March 26. The game will be played at Columbus St. Charles High School with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
Among his players will be 2023-24 MHS seniors JoJo Eberhart, Abbey Price and Addy Tweed.
Head coaches within District 10, which includes Union County, nominate seniors to play in the All-Star game.
Coaches are selected on a vote by their peers.
Coaches then vote to make up two team rosters from the fourth-year players who were nominated.
Ransome said it’s a great feeling that three Lady Monarchs were chosen for the All-Star Game.
“It shows the respect our program has gathered and how hard JoJo, Abbey and Addy have worked to be recognized,” he said. “They are all very deserving and have earned every bit of it.”
Ransome, who guided the Lady Monarchs to a district championship a year ago, feels the Marysville girls program has earned a great deal of respect over the past four seasons.
He credits that to the culture the girls have helped to build.
“Every group we’ve had for the past four years has bought into what we’ve wanted to do as a program,” he said. “They have helped continue to raise expectations and develop a culture that is pretty special.
“This senior group continued to do that.”
Eberhart was named the District 10 Division I player of the year.
She has won Ohio Capital Conference, Central District and All-Ohio accolades during her career.
The 5-11 guard, averaged 12 points, four rebounds and nearly five assists per game this past season.
She was also a main cog in the Lady Monarch defense with an average of slightly more than four steals per game.
That defensive effort allowed MHS to score quite a number of points in its transition game.
Price, a 5-9 forward, averaged 12.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
Tweed, a 5-10 forward, scored an average of eight points per outing and grabbed 4.3 rebounds per game.
