The Marysville Lady Monarch swimmers took first-place honors on Monday during the annual Columbus Whetstone Invitational.
MHS splashed its way to 181 points to capture the team title of the event that was held at the Columbus Aquatic Center.
Marysville was followed by Grove City-143, Watkins Memorial-105, Whetstone-94, Marion Harding-67 and Wellington-62.
The MHS boys were third in their six-team competition.
Grove City won the boys meet with 204 points, followed by Watkins Memorial-162, Marysville-81, Wellington-79, Marion Harding-58 and Whetstone-57.
MHS’ girls took first-place honors in three events.
Those events were as follows:
– 200 yard medley relay: (Mikayla Seman, Rachel Poling, Morgan Grawe, Diana Jimenez), 2:02.84;
-200 yard individual medley: Poling, 2:27.90;
-100 yard breaststroke: Poling, 1:13.75.
“Clearly what helped our girls team win the meet was the combination of winning three of the 11 events, placing second in six and having every swimmer score points (top eight) in each one of their individual events,” said MHS coach Craig Faircloth. “It was truly a team effort.”
The Monarch boys were limited by the fact that they had only seven swimmers compete in the meet.
“We were still able to put together a respectable third-place finish,” said Faircloth. “We finished second in six of the 11 events, which was pivotal towards finishing as well as we did.”
No other results were reported by presstime.
