The Lady Monarch varsity girls cross country squad placed second, while the boys were fifth during the 55th annual Newark Invitational.
MHS runners took advantage of a cool morning to compete well on Saturday.
Marysville’s girls were led by the first and second place finishes of Bryn Hothem (19:59) and Katie Krueger (20:04).
Also scoring for the Lady Monarchs were Emerson Bautsch (18th, 21:16), Olivia Elliott (27th, 21:51) and Emily Krueger (30th, 21:56).
Pickerington North won the girls race with 70 points and the Lady Monarchs were runners-up with 78.
Other team scores were Pickerington Central-82, Big Walnut-119, Westerville North-129, Northridge-152, Heath-167, Granville-191, Mt. Vernon-237, Utica-275 and Newark-277.
Heath captured top honors in the boys meet with 52 points.
The Bulldogs were followed by Pickerington Central-57, Granville-61, Newark-145, Marysville-145 (place based on fifth-place time), Westerville North-165, Northridge-178, Utica-190, Pickerington North-220, Big Walnut-263 and Mt. Vernon-307.
Scoring for the MHS boys were Brian Boston (15th, 17:24), Preston Herring (20th, 17:26), Jack Flanagan (34th, 17:56), Riley Karnes (36th, 17:58) and Blake Murgatroyd (40th, 18:07).
The Bunsold Middle School boys placed second in their portion of the race.
The Monarchs were led by Evan Donahue (10th, 12:07).
Bailey Gross of Marysville won the middle school girls race.
Her time of 11:53 was a new school record.
Gross won the girls individual title by more than a minute.
The Monarch varsity teams will compete on Saturday at the Dublin Jerome Celtic Clash.

Jonathan Alder’s girls and boys cross country teams placed first and second respectively during the Graham Invitational.
The Lady Pioneers won the championship with 22 points.
Miami East was the distant runner-up with 121.
Morgan Hicks of JA won the girls individual race with a time of 19:52.4.
Bethel won the boys meet with 73 points and Alder was second with 92.
Triad also competed in the meet.
Shalyn Smiles was the Lady Cardinals’ top finisher. She crossed the finish line in 12th place with a personal record effort of 21:26.7.
The Triad girls did not have enough runners for a team score.
Joe Ferguson was the Cardinals’ top boys runner.
He finished 55th in 18:54.9.
The Cardinals placed 15th with 382 points.
