Fairbanks’ softball squad wrapped up its spring break trip to Pigeon Forge, Tenn. with a victory and a tie.
The Lady Panthers clubbed Rootstown (Ohio) by a 17-7 count.
FHS tallied 13 hits and committed only one fielding miscue.
Fairbanks plated 12 runs over the fourth and fifth innings to win by the run rule.
“The game was played under rain, but since we were on turf, we kept playing,” said FHS coach Amy Sines. “However, it was hard for both pitchers to hold onto the wet ball.”
Maddi Sines notched the victory for the Lady Panthers.
She allowed eight hits, walked five and struck out one.
Hailey Dee, Anna Dulle, Elizabeth Gregory, Kyah Hendren and Claire Meihls each tallied a pair of hits.
Dee, Dulle and Meihls each drove in two runs.
The nightcap resulted in a 10-10 stalemate with Alliance (Ohio) Marlington High School.
“We got a late start to the game and the lights for the complex were set to go off at 10 a.m.,” said Sines.
The teams began the seventh inning when the lights unintentionally went out.
The game was delayed for 30 minutes and by the time the lights came back on, a thick fog had set in.
“We decided to call the game and end with a tie,” said Sines.
Macy Kise yielded eight hits, issued six free passes and fanned nine from the pitching circle.
She and Dulle both tallied three hits.
Kise also drove in four runs.
Jenna Dee and Hendren both tallied two hits.
“This was a great start to our season,” said Sines of the team’s 3-0-1 record. “All four teams we faced were tough and I was so proud of how well we played both offensively and defensively.
“I’m looking forward to a great season.”
The Lady Panthers will host Mechanicsburg on Monday.
MHS squad falls
Marysville’s varsity softball team is also playing at Pigeon Forge.
The Lady Monarchs slipped to 1-2 with a 13-12 loss to Monona Grove High School.
Ella Wood, Lauren Mobley and Josie Bumgarner each had two of MHS’ nine hits.
Bumgarner hit an inside-the-park home run.
Also hitting safely were Maya Segner, Brooklynn Gamby and Ally Clementz.
Bumgarner tallied four RBIs.
Also driving in runs were Wood, Gamby and Abby Strahm, each with one.
Junior varsity team claims two wins.

Kylie Levings was the winning pitcher against Paintsville. She fanned seven.
Lilly McKinney led the Jr. Monarchs with two hits.
