Several local wrestling programs recently competed in Triad’s inaugural girls tournament.
More than 30 squads ventured to Lady Cardinal Country with four of them coming from the local area.
Big Walnut took the tournament crown by scoring 145 points.
The Eagles were followed by Indian Lake-119 and Watkins Memorial-109.
Jonathan Alder placed 10th as a team, tying with Benjamin Logan with 48 points.
The host program Triad finished in 21st place, tying with London with 24 points.
Fairbanks took the 28th place with 16 points. FHS tied with Buckeye Valley.
North Union sent one athlete to the tournament. With no placers, the Lady Cats did not score any team points.
JA RESULTS
Jonathan Alder’s 125-pounder Ava Ater placed fourth following a medical forfeit to Big Walnut’s Adah Darst in the placement match.
Annie Saxour (235) claimed a fifth-place finish after pinning Highland’s Madalynn Morrison during the second period
In the 100-pound weight class, Tristen Gregory finished sixth after suffering a second-period pin against Greeneview’s Olivia Bender.
Natalie Musil, JA’s 110-pounder, also took sixth place following an 8-3 loss to Fairborn’s Brianna Kelly.
Also competing for the Lady Pioneers were Tristen Gregory (100), Brooke Walker (120), Madison Hall (155) and Victoria Bobrova (115).
ONE PLACES FOR TRIAD
Triad’s 120-pounder Kaitlyn Gregg finished in fourth place following a 6-4 loss to Westerville North’s Arden Heckman.
Riley Haser (125) also competed for Triad.
FAIRBANKS HAS TWO PLACERS
Fairbanks’ 100-pounder Madeline Cunningham finished fourth following a first-period pin loss to Watkin’s Memorial’s Mila Cruz.
At 190 pounds, Fairbanks’ Phoebe Allison forfeited the fifth place match to take sixth against Highland’s Emma Bolton.
Also competing for the Lady Panthers were Riley Jones (130) and Ellie Chippas (155).
RIFFLE COMPETES FOR NU
North Union’s Rylan Riffle was the only Lady Cat to compete in the tournament. She ended her day during the consolation quarterfinals after suffering a first-period pin to Mila Cruz of Watkins Memorial.
