Several local high school basketball players have earned first-team honors for the Central Buckeye Conference. They are, North Union’s Journey Blevins, pictured, (the girls player of the year in the Mad River Division), Jonathan Alder’s Sydney Bourquin, North Union’s Preston Crabtree and JA’s Jackie Santa-Emma.
North Union’s Journey Blevins has been named the player of the year for the Mad River Division of the Central Buckeye Conference in girls basketball.
A sophomore, Blevins led the Lady Cats (7-16) in scoring and rebounding with respective 13.5 and 7.6 averages.
Blevins was one of several local cagers to earn all-conference accolades when the CBC announced its teams today.
Her North Union teammate, Maddie Amstutz, was named to the second-team in the division.
Sydney Bacon of NU was named to the special mention list, while Kori Marvin earned the Sportsmanship award.
Amstutz averaged 8.2 points per outing, Bacon scored at a 5.4 clip and grabbed five boards per game.
Marvin averaged 10.4 points per game during an injury-shortened (five games) campaign.
Local girls also earned honors in the CBC’s Kenton Trail Division.
Jonathan Alder’s Sydney Bourquin was named to the first team, while Abby Jones earned second-team status.
Melissa Walbom garnered special mention and Jillian Jaske was named to the Sportsmanship award.
Bourquin is averaging 12.5 points per game for the Lady Pioneers (16-6). She is also dishing 6.5 assists per contest.
Jones is JA’s leading scorer with a 14.7 average. She is also grabbing nearly five rebounds per game.
Walbom is the third Lady Pioneer who is scoring in double figures. She has a 10.1 per-game average.
Jaske is averaging five points and four rebounds per game.
The CBC’s boys side of the ledger also saw local athletes earn honors.
Jackie Santa-Emma of Jonathan Alder was named to the Kenton Trail Division’s first team, while Jackson Izzard and Henry Walker earned second-team honors.
JA’s Jacob Koenig was named to the special mention list and Daniel Heinig earned the Sportsmanship award.
Santa-Emma is averaging 11 points and 4.5 assists per game for the 16-6 Pioneers.
Izzard is Alder’s leading scorer at 12.6 per game, while Walker is averaging 10 points and five rebounds per game.
Koenig is scoring nearly nine points per contest, while Heinig is averaging three points and four boards per game.
Preston Crabtree of North Union was named to the first team in the Mad River Division.
Connor Terrill of NU was named to the second team, while Harley Day earned special mention status and Joel Krebehenne earned the Sportsmanship honor.
Crabtree is North Union’s (12-10) top scorer with a per-game average of 13.3. He is also averaging 5.4 rebounds.
Terrill averages 11 points per outing, while Day is scoring 11 and adding seven rebounds per game.
Krebehenne is averaging three points per game.
