Jonathan Alder’s softball squad had an easy time during its Division II tournament opener on Thursday.
The top-seeded Lady Pioneers cruised to a 13-0 verdict over No. 15 Columbus Beechcroft.
JA (19-4) plated nine runs in the home half of the first inning to set the tone of the contest.
Alder added a pair of runs in each of the second and third frames.
Abby Harrington, Shanna Higgins, Kylie King, Alyssa Miller, Jaxsyn Murdock, Evan Platfoot and Sierra Walker each had one hit for the Lady Pioneers.
Higgins and King both drove in a pair of runs.
Marlee Jacobs pitched the first three innings for Alder.
She fanned six and did not allow a hit.
Miller went two innings in relief and gave up Beechcroft’s only hit.
She struck out five and issued one walk.
Alder will host No. 8 River Valley on Tuesday in the district semifinals.

Monarchs triumph
Marysville’s varsity baseball squad (10-14) downed Desales, 4-1, in eight innings.
Justin DeHoff yielded just one hit in 6 2/3 innings.
Tristan Burns drove in a run.

Pioneers win
An 8-0 victory at Kenton evened Fairbanks’ baseball record at 12-12.
The Panthers tallied 10 hits and did not commit an error.
The Wildcats were limited to just three hits by FHS pitcher Alex Blumenschein.
He struck out seven.
FHS also benefitted from seven Kenton errors.
Noah Rausch went three-for-four at the plate, while Blumenschein tallied two hits and drove in a run.
Ryker Beaty, Grant Rausch, CJ Swartz, Nathan Combs and Max Snyder each had one hit.
The Panthers are scheduled to play at North Union on Monday.

Lady Cardinals fall
The season came to a heart-breaking end for Triad’s softball squad.
The No. 10 seed Lady Cardinals (10-15) held a 4-0 lead after five innings.
No. 3 Russia, however, rallied for a 5-4 victory in eight innings during the Division IV tourney game.
Joni Russell went four-for-four at the plate with a homer for the Lady Cardinals.
She also allowed six hits and fanned 12 in the pitching circle.
Abby Walls and Cati LeVan each tallied a pair of hits.

Jayvees win
Marysville’s junior varsity softball team clubbed Thomas Worthington, 24-2.
Maya Segner, Avery Prohaska, Abigail Wilkerson, Mia Carder, Jordyn Ledley and Emma Howell each hit home runs.
Wilkerson and Ashlynn McAdow both tallied three hits.
McAdow went the distance in the circle during the shortened game and allowed two hits.
The Monarch JV-A and JV-B teams combined for a 21-4 record and were reserve champions of the Ohio Capital Conference Cardinal Division.

Chase Adkins had two hits.
Luke Bonzcak started on the mound for the Monarchs (14-6) and went three innings.
Adkins tossed a pair of innings in relief.
