Marysville’s varsity volleyball squad upped its record to 5-6 on Tuesday by sweeping Westland.
MHS won the match by scores of 25-23, 25-15, 25-18.
The Lady Monarchs combined for 31 kills on the night and were led by Alyssa Codner with nine.
Rhiannon Gossett tallied six, Madison Fluharty contributed five and Carys Gossett and Kaitlyn DeLauter each added four.
Peyton Ingle and Sarah Peterson each had 15 assists.
“Strong defense and serve receive were contributing factors in the victory,” said head coach Bethany Bentz.
Maddie Busch led the Monarchs on defense with 16 digs, while Morgan Shick tallied 11.
“We have set a goal to improve a percent each time we step on the court,” said Bentz. “The girls are accomplishing this goal each time in different aspects of their game.”
The Lady Monarchs will host Central Crossing on Thursday as they honor first responders, military veterans and fallen law enforcement officers.
The freshman and JV matches will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity to follow.

Fairbanks’ spikers scored a 25-16, 25-18, 25-18 verdict over West Jefferson.

Jaguars are 3-0
The St. John’s volleyball team has won the first three games of the 2019 season.
The Lady Jaguars opened with a 25-7, 25-12 triumph over Shekinah Christian.
