MHS tennis team fights back for win
The Lady Monarchs tennis team was able to fight its way back with strong doubles play to beat neighboring Jonathan Alder 3-2 on Tuesday.
Marysville’s Anne Grimm squared off against Alder’s Mikayla Hollard in first singles and the two took a game apiece to force a third game. Hollard came out on top with a 6-3 win.
In the second single match, Lauren Markert of Marysville struggled with Lady Pioneer Sidney Winslow. Winslow was able to sweep Market to give Alder a 2-0 lead in the match.
Grace Larriuz was able to turn the tide for Marysville when she faced off against Maddy Grove of JA during the third singles match. Larruiz swept the match with set scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
The Lady Monarchs came through in the doubles matches. Lydia Romine and Kylie Wells played Maddi Vance and Gabby Pollen in the first doubles match. Vance and Pollen won the first set 6-4, but the Lady Monarchs answered with 6-4, 6-4 victories to win the match.
Julie Shade and Caroline Geraghty of Marysville took the court to face Mary Kate Hipp and Eliza Watkins in the finals doubles match. They won 7-6, 6-3.
FHS golf teams win OHC matches
The Fairbanks High School boys golf downed West Jefferson 183-202 at Hickory Hills Golf Club on Tuesday.
Justin Brackenridge was named the medalist when he turned in a 40 after nine holes of play. Travis Brake carded a 47. Seth Payne and Logan Bocsy each tallied a 48. Aiden Wilson scored a 50 and Cross Hackathorne finished with a 53.
The Lady Panthers of Fairbanks followed suit with a 183-225 victory over Northeastern at National Links on Tuesday.
Natalie Parker was named the medalist of the match with a 38. Emily Wilson turned in a 40. Audrey Brackenridge carded a 41. Racheal Studenmund and Joryn Orodi each tallied a 64, while Shelby Jones finished with a 65.
The Fairbanks Middle School boys golf team also found success on Tuesday when it defeated Jonathan Alder 196-227 at Marysville Golf Cub.
Andrew Crowe was named the medalist of the match with a 40. Alex Crowe carded a 45. Noah Rausch tallied a 47. Nickolas Welch and Andy Higginbotham each finished with a 64.
Cards fall to Mechanicsburg
The Triad boys golf team fell to Mechanicsburg 201-183 in their first Ohio Heritage Conference contest at Woodland Golf Course on Tuesday.
Cardinal Austin Deere led the way for Triad with a 45 after nine holes of golf. Creighton Bradley followed with a 48. Jalen Nott tallied a 53 and Jacob Greve rounded out the team with a 55.
Caleb Westfall of Mechanicsburg was named the medalist of the match with a 35. Jack Shoemaker scored a 43. Bradley Butsch turned in a 52, while Wyatt Bowman stroked a 53.
The Cardinals will return to action on Monday to tee off against Northeastern at National Links.
