The Marysville Monarch boys varsity soccer team dropped a 1-0 verdict to Dublin Jerome on Tuesday.
Jerome controlled possession for most of the first half.
The Monarchs stayed close, defended well and looked to strike on the counter.
The Celtics, though, found the breakthrough with eight seconds left in the first half.
They fired a low cross that finished inside the box.
Marysville looked to respond early in the second half.
Wyatt Griffith just missed the net on a long-range effort.
Jerome again settled into possession and forced MHS keeper Grant Kaifas into several saves.
The Monarchs weren’t done, however, as they created several scoring chances over the last 10 minutes.
The best effort saw JJ Riggsby break through for a one-on-one with the Celtics’ keeper.
The goalie blocked the shot and maintained the shutout.
