The weather was as perfect on Tuesday as you could get for late March as Marysville High School’s boys and girls track and field teams opened the 2019 season.
Both Monarch squads competed in triangular meets at Thomas Worthington High School.
Athletes were greeted by brilliant sunshine, cool temperatures and a bit of a breeze.
In years past, track athletes have opened with weather ranging from snow flurries to driving rain.
The host Cardinals won both meets.
The Worthington boys tallied 114 points, while the Monarchs scored 45 and Central Crossing finished with five.
The Lady Cardinals put 97 points on the board, followed by MHS-61 and Central Crossing-10.
The Monarchs notched a handful of high finishes in both meets.
Blake Angel won the boys high jump with a leap of 5-10. He followed with a tape-breaking effort of 16.18 in the 110-meter high hurdles.
Tristan Karnes crossed the finish line in first place for the 800-meter run with a clocking of 2:08.
He was also third in the 1600-meter run in 5:01.
Logan McSwords was second in the long jump at 18-1 and third in the high jump at 5-8.
Haley Cook had a solid day for the Lady Monarchs.
She was first in the long jump at 15-0 and captured the 100-meter dash in 13.74.
Cook placed third in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 51.51.
Carys Gossett also turned in a first-place effort with a heave of 97-8 in the discus. She was the runner-up in the shot put at 29-2.
Katie Miller was the runner-up in a pair of events.
She finished the long jump at 14-2 and ran the 100-meter dash in 14.16.
Grace Leonard was second in the discus with a toss of 82-11 and third in the shot put at 27-5.
“Overall, this was a solid opening meet during spring break week,” said Marysville head coach Luke Sundermeier.
“I saw a lot of positives upon which we can build.”
