The seventh-inning “heebe-jeebe’s” that plagued Marysville’s varsity softball team earlier this week were not to be found on Thursday during an 11-4 victory over Hilliard Davidson.
The final frame of contests against Dublin Coffman and Upper Arlington caused a lot of stress for Monarch Nation in recent times.
MHS lost the game at Coffman on a seventh-inning error and then held off a fierce rally by Upper Arlington during the same frame a couple of days later.
A six-run fourth inning pretty much sealed Thursday’s victory as Marysville improved to 12-5 overall and 4-1 in the Ohio Capital Conference Central Division.
The Lady Monarchs (who are scheduled to host New Albany today) grabbed a 4-0 lead in the visitors’ portion of the first inning and never trailed.
Davidson starting pitcher Lauren Runals loaded the bases right off the bat when Emily Daniel legged out a bunt single and Hanna Moffett and Ashley Dunn drew walks.
Monarch pitcher Izzy Shroyer gave herself the early lead when she blasted a triple that brought in all three runners.
Leah Potter followed with a base hit that scored Shroyer for a 4-0 margin.
The Wildcats cut their deficit in half with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.
Shroyer got the first two outs on a strikeout and ground ball.
Carly Keidel blasted a double and trotted home on Ashley Mullins’ single.
The Lady Monarchs committed a couple of errors, with one of the miscues allowing Davidson to plate its second run.
The Lady Monarchs put some distance between themselves and the Wildcats with their big fourth inning.
With one down, Daniel – who went three-for-four at the plate – singled and swiped second.
A grounder left Davidson one out away from escaping any damage.
That’s when MHS cranked up its offense.
Dunn was issued a free pass and Shroyer drove in a run with a double.
A single by Potter plated another score for a 6-2 lead.
Genesis Brooks singled in a run and a Davidson fielding miscue brought in the run that gave MHS an 8-2 advantage.
Tayler Clabaugh singled to load the bases.
The Monarchs’ final two runs of the inning were scored on a base hit by Sydney Wade.
The Wildcats narrowed their deficit to 10-3 with a run in the bottom of the fourth.
Marysville’s final run of the day came in the fifth off relief pitcher Angela DeJesus.
Hanna Moffett put down a bunt and beat out the throw for a base hit.
She stole second and later scored on a single by Shroyer.
Davidson tallied its last run in the bottom of the fifth.
Amy Mullins walked and Nikki Myers was safe on a fielder’s choice.
With two down, Erin Hennessy doubled in the run.
The Lady Monarchs went into the home half of the seventh and there may have been some concerns whether they’d get out of the inning unscathed.
Dunn, MHS’ second baseman, helped make sure none of the seventh-inning problems from earlier in the week would again happen.
She cleanly fielded her position and made throws to first to notch two outs.
Shroyer then coaxed a fly ball that right fielder Brooks caught to end the game.
The Lady Monarchs outhit the Wildcats, 13-7.
“We did a better job at the plate tonight,” said MHS coach Jennifer Segner-Maxwell. “We got bunts down when we needed to and we hit early in the count.
“We executed very well at the plate.
“Izzy pitched a nice game and Ashley Dunn got the job done at second base.”
Shroyer scattered seven hits, struck out a trio of batters and walked three.

The MHS jayvees made it a sweep with an 18-8 victory over Davidson in five innings.
Pitchers Cassie Van Dyke and Bethany Bates combined for the win.
Jillian Smith led off the game with a home run and had two hits for the day.
Kaitlyn Lowry, Bre Ortman and Calla Best each had a pair of hits.
