Marysville’s varsity boys lacrosse team has improved to 3-6 on the season after picking up consecutive wins against Dublin Scioto (9-7) and New Concord John Glenn (11-8).
MHS started its streak against Dublin Scioto for a home conference match.
The Irish were responsible for knocking the Monarchs out of last year’s Division I tournament.
The Monarchs stood tall against a physical Dublin squad, taking a 3-2 lead.
Coming off a lopsided loss to Thomas Worthington, Marysville planned to finish things in a different fashion.
It did not take long, however, for the Irish to tie the game at 3-3 with just a minute and a half to play in the first quarter.
Dublin Scioto took the lead as the seconds ticked down in the first quarter, leaving Marysville trailing 4-3.
Isaac Tocci scored Marysville’s fourth goal, putting the Monarchs at a two-goal (6-4) deficit as the minutes concluded in the first half of play.
Following intermission, Julian Kennedy notched Marysville’s fifth goal, chopping down the Irish lead by just one score (6-5) at the start of the third quarter.
Ben Durey followed that with a game-tying goal, putting the contest at an even 6-6 with about nine minutes left to go in the third quarter.
Luke Montgomery gave the Monarchs the go-ahead score with two minutes left in the third quarter.
Scioto, though, later tied the contest at 7-all.
Marysville regained the lead at 8-7 and later sealed the deal with a goal from defenseman Aiden Raymond late in the fourth quarter.
The victory marked the first time Marysville has defeated a Dublin school in lacrosse since the start of the program.
“It’s fantastic,” MHS coach Zac Engel said. “The guys played great.
“It got a little chippy towards the end, but it was a great game.”
The Monarchs followed the conference win with a road victory against John Glenn.
The Monarchs allowed five late goals after substituting backups once they grabbed an 11-3 lead.
MHS held on at the end for the victory.
The Monarchs are slated to host Hilliard Darby, 6:30 p.m. at home on Tuesday.
