Marysville High School freshman Brynn Rychlik won a jump-off on Wednesday and advanced to the Division I girls regional pole vault.
Rychlik and Upper Arlington’s Caroline Berry were tied for fourth place at 9-0 after the regulation vaults.
They both had an attempt at 9-4 and then the bar was dropped to 9-1.
Berry missed her attempt at that height and Rychlik cleared the bar to advance to next week’s regional meet at Pickerington North High School.
“It was a very dramatic way to advance to the regional competition,” said MHS coach Luke Sundermeier. “Brynn kept her cool throughout the process.
“That was impressive, especially for a freshman.”
Rhiannon Gossett placed sixth for MHS in the discus as she finished with a heave of 96-3.
Other Lady Monarch results for field events were as follows:
-Long jump: Hailey Cook, 11th, 15-4.5; Katie Miller, 18th, 14-6.75;
-High jump: Tyshondra Russell, 14th, 5-8;
-Shot put: Grace Leonard, 15th, 29-7.25; Gossett, 16th, 29-1.
-Discus: Leonard, 17th, 82-6.
District competition will continue this afternoon at Hilliard Darby with the boys’ field events and running prelims for the girls.
