The Lady Monarch basketball team dialed up 11 trifectas Friday evening and coasted to an 84-27 victory over Westland in Ohio Capital Conference action.
Tinley Graves led the charge for MHS (1-3) as she knocked down four treys en route to a game-high 20 points.
Graves and Kass Lee both scored twice during the opening minutes of the contest.
Westland had a great deal of difficulty maintaining possession of the ball during that same time.
By the time Graves scored her second basket, the Lady Monarchs (who will host Olentangy Liberty on Tuesday) had climbed to a 17-0 advantage.
The Cougars didn’t score until the 3:33 mark of the opening set on a basket by Hayden Kershaw.
Westland had difficulty during the first half with Marysville’s press.
The fact the Lady Monarchs also shuffled their defensive looks helped to keep the Cougars off-balance for much of the night.
Alyssa Strahm came off the bench and swished a pair of three-balls as MHS took a 23-5 lead by the end of the opening quarter.
Marysville forced numerous Westland turnovers off the press during the ensuing period.
The Lady Monarchs scored quite a few points in transition as they marched toward halftime.
Graves buried a three-pointer with 32.5 ticks on the first-half clock.
Haley Cook then scored on the offensive glass at the horn to send Marysville into the turn with a whopping 41-8 lead.
Graves nailed a trio of three-pointers during the third quarter.
Sydney Lee also drilled a trifecta as Marysville’s margin climbed to 61-10.
Karleigh Sutter and Caitlin Cotner were not to be denied from beyond the arc.
They both hit three-pointers down the stretch as the Lady Monarchs took a 73-16 lead into the final eight minutes.
MHS coach Brooke Young substituted players liberally for a good portion of the game.
That allowed freshman Leah Brown to tally seven points and sophomore Abbey Williams to score four.
“Both of those girls played well,” said Young.
“This was a total team effort and everyone scored tonight.”
