Marysville’s boys and girls swimming teams captured first-place honors at the Southwest Sprints, hosted by Central Crossing, on Friday.
The boys claimed their title with 51 points, followed by Columbus Centennial-29, Portsmouth Notre Dame-23, Central Crossing-20 and Westland-one.
The Lady Monarchs tallied 80 points, followed by Central Crossing-25, Westland-13, Portsmouth Notre Dame-four and Centennial-two.
Marysville athletes placed first in the following events:
Boys
-100 IM: Hank Luther, 1:00.31;
-50 backstroke: Luther, 28.86;
-50 breastroke: Luther, 29.46;
-200 freestyle relay: Ethan Turk, Jacob Markert, Shane Hothem and Jacob Meyer, 1:54.53.
Girls
-200 medley relay: Mikayla Seman, Rachel Poling, Maddie Murphy and Diana Jimenez, 2:06.94;
-100 IM: Poling, 1:06.65;
-50 butterfly, Morgan Grawe, 29.16;
-50 backstroke: Seman, 31.52;
-50 breastroke: Poling, 32.52;
-50 freetyle: Poling, 26.47;
-200 freestyle relay: Sophie Taracko, Seman, Remini Roush and Jimenez, 1:56.59.
Combined Relays
Two boys-two girls
-Mixed 200 medley relay: Luther, Aron Moledor, Grawe and Poling, 1:56.67;
-Mixed 200 freestyle relay: Turk, Seman, Taracko and Moledor, 1:49.96;
-Mixed 200 butterfly relay: Turk, Luther, Jimenez and Grawe, 1:56.82.
“This sprint meet was a fun and unique meet format that allowed our swimmers to contest events half the distance they normally contest, which is different than all other meets during the season,” said MHS coach Craig Faircloth. “Additionally, the three mixed relay events were unique and allowed both our boys and girls teams to combine strengths.
“We swam really well as a team and had a great experience,” he said. “Many individual and relay races were exciting because they were very close.
“Our swimmers truly enjoyed this meet’s unique format and both the boys and girls teams truly came together both in the water and by cheering for one another like no other meet this season.”
