Several Marysville High School track and field athletes placed during the recent state indoor meet.
The competition was held at the Spire Institute in Geneva.
Monarch athletes who placed were as follows:
-Triple jump: Shannon Cordle (13th, 30-4);
-Shot out: Carys Gossett (16th, 34-2);
-Pole vault: Jackie Rychlik (20th, 10-6);
-Boys 400 dash: Griffin Rigel (23rd, 51.80);
-Boys 4×800 relay: (Rigel, Jack Flanagan, Brian Boston, James Heap, 19th with a new school record of 8:23.49);
-Girls 4×800 relay: (Bryn Hothem, Bailey Gross, Maggie Foust, Emerson Bautsch, 16th, 10:07.43);
-Long jump: Cameron Jones (fifth place, All-Ohio, 21-9).
“Overall, we had a fantastic showing at the indoor state meet,” said MHS coach Luke Sundermeier. “It was a good chance to cap off a strong winter campaign and compete against the best in Ohio.
“Our approach to the indoor season is based on preparing for our spring outdoor campaign and any chance you get to compete at a high level is useful for long-term goals,” he said.
“Cam Jones came in seeded 21st in the long jump and took fifth-place honors. He was flying down the runway and long jump coach Caleb Downey did a great job of helping Cam maximize his speed and convert it into distance on his jumps.
“The team set six new school indoor records this winter and built a great deal of momentum for the outdoor season,” said Sundermeier.
The Monarch boys and girls teams will begin the 2022 outdoor season on Saturday, March 26.
That’s when the Delaware Hayes Invitational will be held.
The first event of the day is scheduled for 9 a.m.
