Awsom Mitchell recently continued a stellar first-year of high school wrestling.
The Triad High School freshman took top Division III sectional honors competing in the 165-pound weight class.
Wrestling at Covington High School, Mitchell toppled Benjamin Logan junior Matthew Beikman for the sectional title.
Mitchell claimed the championship with a 15-6 verdict over the Raider grappler.
Mitchell will join a pair of teammates for the district tournament that will be held at Hobart Arena on Friday and Saturday.
Tucker Webb, the Cardinals’ 190-pound sophomore, placed fourth in his weight class.
Sophomore Reid Todhunter, who competes in the 157-pound division, also earned fourth-place accolades to advance to the next round of action.
Triad had three athletes place in their weight classes, but they did not advance to the district.
Freshman Teion Stammen was fifth at 175 pounds.
Sophomore Jacob Haser did the same at 120 pounds.
Freshman Cayden Everhart was sixth in the 144 division.
Covington captured top team honors in the sectional with 187.5 points.
Brookville was the runner-up with 179.5.
