Marysville’s varsity wrestlers cruised to three victories during a home quad event on Wednesday.
The Monarchs opened the day with a whopping 82-0 verdict over Pickerington Central.
They followed with a 69-6 triumph over Hilliard Davidson and a 54-23 victory over Upper Arlington.
Marysville’s individual results for the day were as follows:

-120: Emilio Guerrero 1-2;
-126: Nate Thompson 3-0;
-132: Lincoln Witt 2-1;
-138: Josh Melms 3-0;
-145: Riley Miller 2-1;
-152: Jack Golla 3-0;

-170: Colton Powers 3-0;
-182: Brady Seger 1-2;
-195: Ben Bickerstaff 3-0;
-220: Stephen Garcia 2-1;
-285: Zach McMinn 3-0.
A trio of MHS grapplers also competed in junior varsity matches.
Joe Bates posted a 1-1 record.
Cole Clarridge dropped all three of his matches and Jarod Shock went 0-2.
The remainder of the Monarch team had the opportunity to compete during Wednesday’s Fairbanks Holiday duals.
The event was a modified dual format.
“We appreciate Coach (FHS coach James) Kasser involving our guys in their event,” said MHS head coach Shawn Andrews. “Varsity B/JV events are even harder to come by this year due to the coronavirus.”
Monarch results from the Fairbanks tournament were as follows:
-106: Justin Valdez 3-1;
-113: Gage Riley 3-1;
-120: Juice Kennedy 4-0;
-138/145: Austin Winn 5-0;
-138: Erik Nelson 2-0;
-145: Zayne Leiter 1-3;
-152: Blaize Hall 1-2;
-160: Alton Dobyns 3-1;
-182: Max Shroyer 4-0;
-285: Andrew Howard 2-1.
“As this year continues to move forward day-by-day, our goal is to get as many practices and competitions as possible,” said Andrews. “When the Brecksville holiday tournament was canceled, we worked as quickly as possible to get something on our schedule.
“We would have loved to get all of the teams from our opening weekend (the canceled Marysville duals tournament), but everyone already had other events scheduled,” he said. “We were grateful to pick up some matches against local teams, but missed the challenge that comes with wrestling at the Brecksville holiday tournament.”
The Monarchs will host another quad event on Saturday.
Mentor Lake Catholic, which is ranked fifth in the state among Division II teams, will compete.
Other squads will include Olentangy Orange and Springboro.
“We expect Saturday to be a much bigger test than our first two events and we are excited about another opportunity to compete,” said Andrews.
