Marysville High School’s wrestlers competed in a handful of tournaments over the weekend.
The Monarchs made the short trip to Dublin Scioto High School to compete in the Kevin Cleveland Memorial Tournament.
“Several years ago, we started adding the Kevin Cleveland to our schedule,” said MHS head coach Shawn Andrews. “It’s for our guys who may have missed a competition in the first half of the season or for some of our younger guys who are having a high level of success on the JV schedule, but can’t crack the varsity line-up.”
MHS finished 13th out of 21 schools on Saturday.
Team scores were Oregon Clay-248, Centerville-200, Westerville North-147, Watkins Memorial-128, Dublin Scioto-126, Mt. Vernon-117, Olentangy Berlin-106, Grove City-97, Pickerington North-91, Westerville Central-82, Lakota West-75, DeSales-62,
Marysville-58, Canal Winchester-56, New Albany-56, Pickerington Central-53, Licking Heights-53, Worthington Kilbourne-50, Columbus Walnut Ridge-35, Columbus East-19 and Centerburg-18.
Josh Melms (138) and Joey Palmer (220) both placed third in their weight classes.
Christian McCartney earned eighth place at 170.

Lady Monarchs compete
Marysville’s girls competed in a tournament at Olentangy Orange.
The Lady Monarch placed third out of 24 schools behind Miami East and Olentangy Orange.
All six MHS girls made the semi-finals, but fell short of individual championships.
The girls placed as follows:
-101: Madison Sharp, second;
-235: Destiny Fry, second;
-111: Emma Swart, third;
-116: Maddie Adlesberger, third;
-121: Laila Oribello, third;
-126: Cali Leng, third.
“It was nice for our girls to compete in an all-girls event to get a measuring stick of where they are compared to other female wrestlers,” said Andrews. “They have three more events on the schedule, including this weekend at Ridgedale.”
