MHS closes out regular season; will take break until sectional tournament
Marysville High School’s boys wrestling team accomplished something on Thursday it hadn’t done in seven years.
Now in the Cardinal Division, the Monarchs’ 64-15 triumph over Olentangy gave them their first Ohio Capital Conference championship since 2014.
“Olentangy’s program is in a bit of a valley and due to injury, COVID-19 and other circumstances, could only cover seven of the 14 weight classes,” said MHS coach Shawn Andrews. “In the end, that doesn’t take away from our kids the feeling of winning a conference title.
“In five years when they come back into the wrestling room or gym, they won’t remember who had a forfeit or which team was tough,” he said. “However, they will look up on the board in the gym and see the year 2021 and it will be a sense of pride.”
Results from matches that were contested were as follows:
-120: Vaughn Fowler (O) pinned Joe Eley (M), 1:10;
-126: Nathan Thompson (M) scored a 13-2 major decision over Gabe Bulugaris (O);
