The Lady Monarch varsity volleyball team got off to a slow start and fell behind 2-0 at Hilliard Davidson on Thursday.
Marysville, however, fought back and claimed victory by scores of 15-25, 10-25, 25-10, 25-17, 15-13.
It was the first victory for MHS (9-15) over Davidson in four years.
“We executed the game plan with fierce fire, energy, and determination during the final three sets,” said Lady Monarch coach Bethany Bentz. “We worked as a unit to defend the Wildcat offense and attack their defense.”
Morgan Shick led the MHS defense with 20 digs. She was aided by Maddie Busch and Kaitlyn DeLauther, who both finished with 10.
A strong serve receiving match by Shick, Busch, DeLauter, Alyssa Codner and Megan Melish helped the Lady Monarchs run their offense.
DeLauter also led the offense with 19 kills, while Madison Fluharty and Codner each tallied seven.
The Gossett sisters – Rhiannon and Carys – each notched five kills.
Sarah Peterson, Peyton Ingle and Miali Bard combined for 37 assists.
The Lady Monarchs will host Davidson on Monday during the opening round of the Division I tournament.
