A new Marysville High School swimming record was set during the Division I district meet that was held Friday at The Ohio State University.
The girls’ 200 medley relay team of Mikayla Seman, Rachel Poling, Morgan Grawe and Diana Jimenez established a new mark of 1:54.25.
That broke the previous standard of 1:54.43 set eight years ago by Lindsey Rossi, Mary Kallinicou, Miranda Hampton and Ellie Prinster.
The foursome placed 14th in the event.
The Lady Monarchs tied for 23rd place overall in the district with 16 points.
The MHS boys did not score any points during their district meet.
Scoring for Marysville’s girls (top 16 places) also came in 200 freestyle relay as the same foursome placed 12th with a time of 1:43.38.
Additional places for the girls were as follows:
-100 breaststroke: Poling, 18th, 1:09.19;
-100 butterfly: Grawe, 20th, 1:00.78;
-500 freestyle: Seman, 25th, 5:38.76;
-400 freestyle relay: (Maddie Murphy, Remini Roush, Riley Sherick, Sophia Taracko), 26th, 4:02.81;
-50 freestyle: Poling, 28th, 25.80.
The boys’ 200 freestyle relay team of David Bonczak, Aron Moledor, Ethan Turk and Hank Luther placed 27th with a time of 1:40.31.
The boys’ 200 medley relay foursome of Luther, Moledor, Turk and Shane Hothem was clocked in 1:54.50, good for 28th place.
“To break the girls’ 200 medley relay team record required all four relay members to swim personal best split times and they did just that,” said MHS coach Craig Faircloth. “It was truly a team effort.
“We had a great district meet as a team,” he said. “A total of seven of our nine events resulted in significant best times on the season. Additionally, we had many swimmers record personal-best time splits in the relays.
“We set two new girls’ records during the post-season when we added Rachel Poling’s 50 freestyle record of 25.53 that was set during the sectional meet,” said Faircloth.
“The boys’ team put together an outstanding 1.25-second time drop in their 200 freestyle relay.”
