A newcomer to the Fairbanks High School cross-country program set a new school record on Saturday.
Amelia Cameron placed third in the Pickerington North Classic with a time of 19:59.6.
That not only broke an FHS girls record, but Cameron is the first Lady Panther in school history to run a sub-20 minute race.
She broke Adeline Fitzwater’s 2017 record of 20:26.
“If Amelia stays healthy, I would expect her to break that record a few more times this season,” said Panther coach Mike Van Winkle.
Cameron came to Fairbanks earlier this summer after Powell Village Academy closed its operations.
Cameron competed in the state cross-country meet last year for Village Academy.
Additional FHS girls runners on Saturday were Kaidie Carstenen, 98th, 24:15.4; Gracie Hubbs, 99th, 24:15.9; Linsey Eddy, 155th, 25:39.8; and Annika Parks, 337th, 35:43.8
Fairbanks placed 14th with 421 points.
