For its final regular season meet of the track season North Union traveled to the West Liberty Salem Reliant Tiger Invitational on Friday.
“Some heavy hitters from the western part of the state were in attendance, including Anna, Bellefontaine, Benjamin Logan, Botkins, Lehman Catholic, Tipp City Bethel, Versailles and West Liberty Salem,” NU head coach Cole Krawczyk said. “It was a great meet for the final one of our regular season and our athletes had many personal bests and some great finishes against some great competition.”
Overall, North Union finished sixth in the boys meet and seventh in the girls meet.
Wyatt Davis and Gabby Lindsey each picked up a first-place finish.
Davis posted a leap of 19 feet, seven inches to win the boys long jump while Lindsey led the field in the girls 400 with a time of 59.94 seconds.
Carter Skaggs took second in the boys 110 hurdles in the time of 15.88 while Griffin Osborne was second in the 100 in the time of 11.38.
The Wildcats will compete today and Friday in the Central Buckeye Conference championships at Benjamin Logan.
NUMS team wins
North Union held off a late run by Loudonville to win the girls meet in the Checkers Pizza Middle School Invitational at Crestline.
Needing to be within one place of Loudonville going into the final event – the 4×400 – to secure the victory, the North Union foursome of Adalee Hunt, Rylee Horne, Addison Kirby and Samantha Price finished second with Loudonville winning the event.
The Lady Cats finished with 130 points, one-half point in front of Loudonville.
Earning first-place finishes for North Union were:
Zoni Robinson, 100 hurdles (19.46); the 4×200 team of Kirby, Horne, Paisley Jordan, Katelyn Vine (2:03.35); and the 4×800 team of Price, Morgan Mask, Tinlee Martino and Chloe McElroy (11:18.13).
Price set a school record of 1:05.58 in finishing second in the 400.
North Union finished second in the boys meet with 87 points. New London took first place with 127.5 points.
Jack Kemp won the 400 in a meet-record time of 56.43.
The 4×200 team of Broden O’Reilly, Luke Brown, Kemp, Mason Andrews also set a meet record and school record (1:41.46) in winning the event.
O’Reilly also won the discus with a toss of 113 feet.
