North Union rebounded from a low-scoring third quarter and rallied in the fourth period to earn a 50-48 victory on Saturday at Indian Lake.
The Lady Cats scored just five points in the third quarter and trailed the Lakers 39-30 heading into the final stanza.
“We couldn’t get a shot to really fall in the third quarter,” NU head coach Bre Jackson said.
North Union, however, exploded for 20 markers over the final eight minutes while holding Indian Lake to just nine points to post its fifth win in six games.
The Lady Cats are 2-0 in the Central Buckeye Conference.
Two free throws by Abbey Price tied the game at 48 with nine seconds left in the game.
Following a time out to allow the Lady Cats to set up their defense, Price deflected the inbound pass.
Audrey Benedict caught it and scored on a layup for the game-winning points.
“It was a mix of scoring by the team in the fourth quarter,” Jackson said. “It was a tough-fought game and we did a good job defensively on their best player, Stephanie Alstaetter.”
North Union led 13-8 at the end of the first quarter and held a two-point edge (25-23) going into halftime.
Benedict led the Lady Cats with 21 points. while Zoe Wedding notched 11 points, which included a trio of three-point goals.
Abbey Price grabbed five rebounds and Jada Davis dished out four assists.
North Union won the JV game 36-18. Allison Price led the way with 11 points.
North Union returns to action Wednesday at home against Graham.
