Several local high school football players have earned Central Buckeye Conference honors for the 2021 season.
Owen Davis of North Union has been named the Mad River Division’s offensive player of the year.
Davis is close to the 1,000-yard mark as a junior running back.
Going into Saturday’s Division V home playoff game against Genoa Area, he’s carried the ball 104 times for 957 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Davis is joined on the division’s first-team offensive unit by junior linemen Drue Duncan and Liam Adams and senior running back Ethan Young.
Young has gained 799 yards on 104 carries with six TDs.
Duncan and Adams have helped pave the way for NU’s ground game that has tallied 2,712 yards during 10 games.
First-team defensive honorees for the Wildcats (8-2) are linemen Dalton Wilson (junior) and Corbin Stanley (senior), senior linebacker Gavin Miller and junior defensive back Trey Bossaller.
Miller leads NU with 103 total tackles and four sacks.
Wilson has tallied 54 tackles and 3.5 sacks, while Stanley has 20 tackles.
Bossaller has intercepted five passes.
Place-kicker Ricky Weigand has converted on 33 of 39 extra point opportunities.
As such, the senior has been named to the first team as a special teams player.
North Union’s second-team honorees include senior offensive lineman Brody Wilson, defensive lineman Trevor Gilbert (senior) and defensive back Tucker Wedding (junior).
Special mention honors went to junior Brian Norman (offensive-defensive line).
Senior Spencer Parish (offensive-defensive lineman) has earned the sportsmanship award.
Jonathan Alder, another local playoff team, has a number of players who have earned CBC Kenton Trail Division honors.
Running back Cameron Jewell (sophomore), defensive lineman Logan Shafley (senior), senior linebackers Chase Maynard and Will Heisler and senior defensive back Jon Keith have all earned first-team accolades.
Jewell is the second-leading rusher in the conference.
He has gained 1,180 yards on 138 carries with 11 TDs.
Shafley has tallied 39 tackles for the 6-4 Pioneers, who will play at Columbus Eastmoor Academy tonight in the Division III post-season.
Maynard leads Alder with 104 total tackles and has returned one interception 30 yards for a touchdown.
Heisler has tallied 53 total tackles.
Keith has notched 47 tackles and intercepted two passes.
Earning second-team status were offensive linemen Andy McGlaughlin (senior) and Baylor Petzinger (junior), senior quarterback Taber Headings, defensive lineman Nick Finke (senior) and senior defensive back Jackson Bennett.
Junior Hank Shoemaker (running back) has been named special mention.
Senior Jayden Truitt (lineman) earned the division’s sportsmanship honor.
