A Union County high school boys basketball player has earned All-Ohio honors for the 2021-2022 season.
North Union senior Zach Vernon has been named to the Division III third team.
The All-Ohio teams are being announced this week by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.
Vernon was the Wildcats’ 6-7 post player and was part of 77 victories during his four-year Wildcat career.
Vernon was a member of an NU squad that went 64-10 during the past three seasons.
North Union advanced to the D-III district championship game all three years.
NU posted a 21-5 record this past season and finished second (by a game) to Urbana in the Central Buckeye Conference’s Mad River Division.
Vernon led the Wildcats in scoring and was fourth in the CBC with a per-game average of 15.8.
He also topped the conference in rebounding with a per-game average of 10.5.
Vernon was tops in the conference in field goal percentage with a 62.7 mark, hitting 156 field goals in 249 attempts.
He dished for 3.2 assists and shot 80% from the free throw line.
He was also third in the CBC in blocked shots with 1.5 per game.
Vernon surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his four-year stint this year.
