The women’s and men’s basketball programs at Ohio Wesleyan University featured players from Union County high schools this past season.
Fairbanks High School graduates Macy Miller and Carly Lehman were on the women’s squad.
Marysville High School grad Joey Duke played for the men’s team.
The women’s team finished the 2023-24 campaign with a 23-7 record.
The Bishops concluded their season with a 70-44 loss to Transylvania during the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament.
Miller brought a solid basketball pedigree to the Bishops program.
She earned first-team Division III all-district honors during her time as a Fairbanks hoopster.
Miller, who is majoring in health and human kinetics, had a solid freshman campaign for Ohio Wesleyan.
She played in all 30 games and tallied 306 points (10.2 per-game average).
She also averaged 7.1 rebounds per game and shot 54% from the floor.
Miller’s high-point game for the campaign came during the season-opener (a 101-44 victory over Defiance) when she tallied 20.
Her best effort on the boards was 13 rebounds on Jan. 10.
That came during a 68-51 verdict over Denison.
Miller and Lehman both earned four varsity letters during their roundball playing days at Fairbanks.
Lehman, who also earned district accolades in high school, joined the Lady Panthers’1,000-point club during her season campaign of 2022-2023.
She played on the Bishop’s junior varsity squad this past season.
Lehman is majoring in business administration.
Duke, who is a senior pre-med/biology major, completed his career with the OWU men’s squad.
He averaged 2.2 points and 1.2 assists per game as the Bishops finished the season with an 11-15 record.
Duke’s best scoring mark of the season came on Jan. 20 when he tallied six points during an 81-67 loss at Wittenberg.
He dished for five assists on Nov. 11 when the Bishops (10-13) fell to Wisconsin-Stout 92-68.
Duke hit two critical free throws that helped the Bishops to a 69-65 victory over Wabash.
The Marysville High School graduate earned Central District and Ohio Capital Conference honors during his high school basketball career.
He also helped the Monarchs win a conference championship during the 2020-21 campaign.
