Fairbanks’ girls softball squad opened the 2021 season with an 11-10 verdict over Northeastern on Monday.
The contest went eight innings.
Hailey Dee led FHS with three hits in five trips to the play.
Gracie Pyers homered, while Julia Cheney drove in three runs.
Pyers, Cheney, Sarah Writesel, Danielle Hoover and Brynne Stanley each tallied two hits.
Cheney started the game in the pitching circle. She fanned three and allowed one hit.
Writesel took over in the fourth inning. She struck out five and yielded one hit.

Fairbanks’ baseball squad rolled to a 7-2 triumph over Elgin.
Evan Blumenschein led FHS (2-0) with three hits.
Nathan Combs tallied two, while CJ Swartz, Ryker Beaty, Noah Rausch and Grant Rausch each had one.
Alex Blumenschein was the winning pitcher.
Swartz picked up the save.
