The Pigskin Pickers race remains tight after the second week of high school games.
Managing editor Chad Williamson, sports editor Tim Miller, reporter Mac Cordell and sports reporter Sam Dillon all posted 4-1 records.
The only game they each lost was Hilliard Darby’s rally over Marysville last Friday.
Publisher Kevin Behrens went 3-2, dropping the Monarchs’ game and a close loss by Triad to West Liberty-Salem.
Williamson, Miller, Cordell and Dillon are all 8-1 on the season.
Behrens is just a game behind at 7-2.
This week, the NFL season kicks off for both the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals.
We’ve also thrown in a handful of college games.
Our guest Pickers are Dave Laslow of Burger King, Dean Cook of Dean Cook Nationwide Insurance, Bob Van Hoose of Van Hoose Garage Doors and Rob Eubanks of Eubanks Electric.

Disclaimers:
Williamson: “After last Friday’s game, if the Monarchs don’t come out and play angry then they might not have enough fire in their bellies. It’s strange to be picking a local team over West Liberty, but Fairbanks looks good in the early going and the Tiger offense has been pedestrian. As far as the college games, who knows? I think Navy showed us on Monday that if a team hasn’t been getting good practice reps they are going to stink it up in the early going.”
Miller: “I hope the Monarchs can bounce back from a disappointing loss. I look for Fairbanks and Jonathan Alder to remain unbeaten.”
Behrens: “Thank goodness for fall sports, otherwise the OHSAA might have been shut down. I think MHS wins a close one. FHS and JA will remain unbeaten, but NU has a battle on its hands at Graham.”
Cordell: “This really could be a good week for the local teams. Marysville can beat Jerome and I think Fairbanks topples West Liberty.”
Dillon: “North Union has a challenge in a solid QB at Graham, but defense has been the shining light for the Wildcats. Hopefully, Coach Hajjar can light a fire in his offense and pull off a solid win over an undefeated Graham squad. Good luck to the local team.s”
Laslow: “Good luck to the local teams!”
Cook: “Good luck to the local teams!”
Van Hoose: “Good luck to the local teams!”
Eubanks: “Good luck to the local teams!”
