For the first time since 2010, Marysville High School officials will be looking for a new boys head basketball coach.
Ryan Grose, who guided the MHS hoopsters for the past 11 seasons, announced on Thursday he is stepping away from the position.
“After 11 seasons, I felt it was time to look at other opportunities and spend more time with my family,” he said.
“It was a tough decision to make, but I feel I gave a lot of time and effort into the coaching position,” he said.
The Monarchs posted a 112-140 record during Grose’s tenure.
He admitted the first few seasons were difficult as he was trying to build his program.
“I think we became competitive during our third season,” said Grose. “It was a rough start, but I feel we got to the point where we were respected in the Ohio Capital Conference.”
Grose said the biggest accomplishment during his time as head coach came in the 2019-20 season.
The Monarchs won the OCC Central Division title that year.
“That was the first conference championship the boys basketball program had earned in 20 years,” he said.
Grose, who said he will remain at MHS as a science teacher, reflected on another highlight of the past 11 seasons.
“I’ve built a lot of life-long friendships with coaches and players,” he said.
Although he is stepping away from the Monarch hoop position, Grose said his coaching days aren’t over.
“I’m not done coaching yet,” he said. “However, I will always be grateful to Marysville for giving me my first head coaching position.
“I feel I’m leaving the program in a better place.”
