Brynn Rychlik and Carys Gossett of Marysville captured Ohio Capital Conference divisional track and field championships on Wednesday.
Rychlik won the girls pole vault with an effort of 12-6.
That established a new OCC Cardinal Division record.
Gossett heaved the discus 118-6.
The first portion of the OCC Cardinal meet was held at Thomas Worthington High School.
Jackie Rychlik placed second behind her sister in the pole vault. She turned in an effort of 11-0.
The Monarch boys notched a pair of fourth-place finishes.
Cameron Jones turned in a 20-4.5 effort in the long jump.
Nick Kessler threw the shot put 45-2.
Prelims were also held in several running events.
MHS athletes who have advanced to Saturday’s finals are as follows:
-100 meter dash: Jones and Paolo Pena;
-110 meter hurdles: Caleb Newland and Zac Galvis;
-100 meter hurdles: Kendal Ellerbrock and Emily Thomas;
-200 meter dash: Pena (boys) and Aelyn Baumbarger (girls);
-300 meter hurdles: Dylan Harper (boys) and Ellerbrock and Olivia Brooks (girls);
-400 meter dash: Griffin Rigel (boys) and Hannah Carney (girls).
“Overall, it was an outstanding start to the OCC championships,” said MHS head coach Luke Sundermeier.
“The girls won two individual titles in the field events and the sprinters ran more than a dozen personal records and qualified 13 spots into the finals.”
The OCC meet will conclude on Saturday at Thomas Worthington.
All remaining field events will begin at 9 a.m.
Running finals are scheduled to start at noon.
