Marysville’s girls tennis team blanked Thomas Worthington, 5-0, on Thursday.
Match results were as follows
Singles
-Hannah Hogan (M) downed Rana 6-0, 6-1;
-Blair Fairchild (M) topped Lu 6-3, 6-2;
-Mallory Huffman (M) beat Decker 6-0, 6-1.
Doubles
-Paige Hobbs and Alyssa Scott (M) beat J. Ray and M. Ray 7-6, 6-3;
-Krista O’Shelski and Caitlee Hill (M) downed Ramachandran and Diebert 6-2, 6-0.
Monarch boys soccer squad edges Olentangy Liberty
The Marysville Monarch boys soccer team came up with a 1-0 victory over Olentangy Liberty on Thursday.
The Monarchs got out of the gate quickly and were rewarded with an early goal.
A Liberty foul set up a free kick in the middle of the field and 35 yards out from the net.
JJ Riggsby stepped up and delivered a solid shot that found Xavier Heller’s head. Heller powered the ball into the back of the net for the score.
The Monarchs maintained the pressure throughout the first half.
However, they were unable to find the net again.
MHS keeper Grant Kaifas came up with a diving save off a Liberty set piece to ensure the Monarchs held the lead going into halftime.
In the second half, Olentangy came out strong, controlling the ball and time of possession.
Marysville’s back line of Jared Boomstra, Caleb Skidmore and Bryce Thomas was up for the challenge.
They denied shots and limited Liberty scoring opportunities.
Kaifas came up with four second-half saves, giving him nine for the evening.
MHS was unable to convert two breakaway chances, but was able to hold onto the clean sheet and earn the victory.
The Monarchs will return to action on Saturday when they host Gahanna Lincoln at 7:15 p.m.
JA downs MHS spikers
Marysville’s varsity volleyball team fell to Jonathan Alder 23-25, 23-25, 17-27 earlier this week.
Sophie Little and Rylee Dundon led the Lady Monarchs with eight kills apiece.
Jillian Gardner and Carys Gossett each tallied five.
Ella Morrls finished with 28 assists.
Olivia Crabtree tallied 19 digs for Alder.
Bunsold falls
Marysville’s eighth-grade spikers fell to Jonathan Alder 17-25, 25-22, 20-25.
Alliyah West notched 10 kills, one ace serve and a block.
JV golfers shoot 242
Marysville’s junior varsity girls golf team shot a 242 against Thomas Worthington and Hilliard Davidson earlier this week.
Worthington carded a 264 and Davidson shot a 270.
Livi Gratz and Ava Jackson of MHS were co-medalists.
