The first half was played to a scoreless stalemate on a gloomy day.
The Fairbanks’ boys soccer team, though, has advanced to the Division III district championship match.
The fourth-seeded Panthers reached that goal by downing No. 5 Columbus Wellington, 2-0, on Wednesday.
Cade Feller and Cade Ziegler each tallied second-half goals as FHS improved to 13-2-3.
Ziegler assisted on Feller’s goal.
Panther net minder Greg Dean finished the contest with four saves.
FHS will play at No. 3 Columbus Academy at 7 p.m. on Saturday for the district title.

JA girls advance
Jonathan Alder’s girls advanced to the Division II district title contest with a victory on Wednesday.
The Lady Pioneers (14-2) edged seventh-seeded Buckeye Valley, 2-1.
Emma Hicks and Katie Hooley each scored a goal.
Hooley and Alex Shaw finished with assists.
Ashley Warren tallied five saves in the net for the second-seeded Lady Pioneers.
Alder will play at No. 1 Granville at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The winner will claim the D-II district title.
