The Marysville and Fairbanks high school softball teams opened the 2019 season over the weekend with games on southern road trips.
The Lady Monarchs are playing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, while the Panthers have made the trek to Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
Marysville won its lone game on Sunday by slugging its way past Deer Lakes (PA), 9-0.
The Lady Monarchs rapped 15 hits and committed just one fielding miscue.
MHS lefty pitcher Izzy Shroyer struck out nine batters to pick up the win. She scattered three hits.
Tayler Claybaugh flexed her muscles at the plate. She clubbed a two-run homer during the home half of the first inning as Marysville took a 5-0 lead.
Claybaugh followed with a solo shot in the fourth.
Shroyer helped herself at the plate with a bases-empty dinger in the second.
Emily Daniel went three-for-four and drove in two runs.
Claybaugh had three hits in as many trips to the plate and drove in a trio of runs.
Jewely Livingston had three hits and two RBIs, while Leah Potter added a pair of hits.

The Lady Monarchs were scheduled to play two games today against Galesburg (IL) and Greenville (TN).
The MHS jayvees won both of their games on Sunday.
The Jr. Monarchs beat Avonworth (PA), 2-0, and OLSH (PA) by a 13-7 count.
Abby Gindelsberger fanned 10 during the complete-game opener.
Bre Ortman had three hits.
Gindlesberger was also the winning hurler in the nightcap.
She also had three hits, along with Jillian Smith, Ortman and Meghan McKinney.
Lady Panthers split
Fairbanks went 1-1 during games on Sunday.
The Lady Panthers opened with an 8-4 triumph over Fontbonne Academy (NY) before dropping a 9-8 verdict to Northeast Bradford (PA).
Julia Cheney was the winning pitcher for FHS in the first game. She struck out two and allowed seven hits.
Allison Kise hit a solo homer in the fifth frame.
Madi Montenaro had two hits and drove in a pair of runs, while Gracie Pyers had two RBIs.
