Triad’s varsity wrestling team posted a 4-1 record and finished second during Saturday’s Northeastern duals tournament.
The Cardinals edged Springfield Shawnee, 37-33, and turned back Urbana, 48-24, during the first two rounds.
Triad doubled the score against Bellefontaine (48-24) and clubbed a combined Northeastern/Southeastern team by a 54-18 verdict.
Kenton Ridge, which won the overall tournament, downed the Cardinals, 42-28.
Triad finished the day with a quartet of weight class champions.
A pair of freshmen won titles as Awsom Mitchell (165) and Ty Thomas (heavyweight) beat all challengers.
Junior Kyle Walborn (190) and sophomore Jacob Haser (113) also claimed first-place honors.
Freshman Brant Bollack (150) and junior Thomas Ford (215) earned runner-up accolades in their respective weight divisions.
JA places 12th
Jonathan Alder’s matmen placed 12th during the inaugural John Brown Memorial that was held in Mt. Vernon.
Dublin Coffman won the Saturday event with 299.5 points.
Mt. Vernon was the runner-up with 172.5.
Rounding out the top five of the 16-team tournament were Westerville North-158, Marion Pleasant-110.5 and Newark-110.5.
The Pioneers finished the event with 73.5 points.
Jonathan Alder had one grappler advance to the finals.
Owen Crabtree was the runner-up in the 150-pound weight class.
He fell by a 3-1 count during the finals to Jake Taylor of Mt. Vernon.
Other Pioneer grapplers who placed were as follows:
Xavier Pierce (126), third; Anthony Kroninger (165), fourth, Eli Trobovitch (144), seventh; and Will Heisler (190), eighth.
