Additional honors have been announced for members of the Marysville High School girls basketball team.
Sophomore guard Ava Wilkerson was named the OCC Cardinal Division’s player of the year.
MHS bench boss Klarke Ransome was honored as the coach of the year in the division.
He earned the division’s top coaching honor for guiding the Lady Monarchs to an 18-6 record this past season.
The Lady Monarchs capped a successful season by winning the Ohio Capital Conference Cardinal Division title and finishing as a Division I district runner-up.
It is the first time in two decades since MHS won an OCC girls basketball title.
The season also marked the first time the Lady Monarch hoopsters had advanced to the district tournament.
Wilkerson averaged 9.6 points per game.
She also averaged 2.7 rebounds and assists per contest.
“Ava has worked extremely hard and deserves everything she receives,” said Ransome. “She has pushed herself and others to continually work to get better.
“She played her best basketball down the stretch and was a major reason for us capturing the conference title and making a tournament run,” said the coach.
“She is a joy to coach and I look forward to pushing her to continue to keep getting better these next two years.”
Wilkerson was joined on the OCC Cardinal Division first team by teammate and senior wing Kass Lee.
Lee averaged 9.3 points and five rebounds per game.
