Carl Michael Caso, 65, of Marysville, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, in Dublin, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He graduated from Pitman High School, in New Jersey, in 1970, and Rutgers University in 1979 with a bachelor’s of science degree in business administration. He worked in many areas of the insurance business, in both New Jersey and Ohio, until 1996. He later worked for Honda Marysville until his retirement in 2016, along with working in insurance on a part-time basis. Creekview Intermediate School held a red carpet kickoff to the school year today, at 8:25 a.m., featuring balloons, music and teachers welcoming back familiar faces. Tier II intervention teacher Teresa Weixel interviewed many of the students who walked the red carpet to enter the school. Students Ryder Fishbaugh and Carson Overbey were asked about what they would tell incoming fifth graders about preparing for middle school, with Fishbaugh saying the teachers are nice and Overbey recommending to get involved with clubs. George and Virginia (Davis) Jewell, of Marysville, are celebrating their 60th anniversary today. They were married in 1957 at the York McKendree Methodist Church, in York Center, by the Rev. Charles Cramer. They have three children, Tom (Michelle) Jewell, Ken (Teresa) Jewell and Kathy (Dave) Wickline; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and 12 step-great-grandchildren. He is a lifelong farmer and veteran of the Korean War, and has been retired from the Union County Highway Department since 2005 after 15 years of service. She is a homemaker. They are celebrating their anniversary with a dinner tonight.

Florence Eleene Green, 98, of Winter Park, Florida, and a native of Union County and longtime Marysville resident, died Tuesday in Florida. She retired from O.M. Scott & Sons Co. after 24 years of service. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Marysville, where she sang in the church choir for many years, as well as being a member of the Modern Mothers Study. The Union County Health Department (UCHD) accepted its notice of award for a $60,000 grant for radon education from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) at Wednesday’s meeting. The radon education program, which has been implemented for more than 15 years, aims to teach homeowners and real estate agents about the dangers of radon leaks in homes. Milford Center Village Council unanimously agreed to accept a resolution to enter into a contract with the Union County Sheriff’s Office to help fund a full-time school resource officer. Union County Sheriff Jamie Patton proposed the idea of a school resource officer to the village council at last night’s meeting. The school resource officer will cost the village about $6,000 a year and will be a deputy who will teach DARE programs in schools like Fairbanks, in light of the heroin and opioid epidemic.
