Union County is moving closer and closer to becoming a testing ground for unmanned aircraft. Fred Judson, director of DriveOhio’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Center in Springfield, was in Marysville Wednesday to discus testing drones along the U.S. 33 corridor. “What we want to do is advance some of these technologies we are developing,” Judson told the Northwest 33 Corridor Council of Governments. Ohio is one of the only states where drones can fly beyond the visual line of sight. What started as a traffic stop over a missing license plate ended in felony drug charges for a man and woman coming through Union County. The Union County Grand Jury has indicted Lillian Jane McWilliams and Gasumu B. Kumara. Both are charged with first-degree felony possession of cocaine and first-degree felony trafficking in cocaine, along with other charges. According to court documents, at about 2:14 p.m., May 22, Sgt. Matthew Himes of the Ohio State Highway Patrol noticed a 2007 Dodge Charger, driving west on U.S. 33. A Marysville man could be facing prison time for an alleged sexual relationship with a teenage girl. The Union County Grand Jury has indicted Zachary Michael Olson, 20, of 109 Northcrest Dr., Marysville. Olson is charged with one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. According to court documents, between July and August of last year, Olson allegedly carried on a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl. Plain City has hired an interim administrator to run the village through the end of the year. At a special meeting this week, village council approved the hiring of Nathan E. Cahill. Council gave him a six-month contract with a salary equal to that of the outgoing administrator Kevin Vaughn who was paid $84,574 with an additional $4,800 car allowance and $40 monthly for a cellphone in 2017. “I am just happy to have the opportunity to serve council, the mayor and the community,” Cahill said after the meeting. Bender, 40, Marysville. Fairbanks School District will need to find a new leader. This morning, Superintendent Bob Humble announced he will step down at Fairbanks to take the same position in another district. “It is with great sadness and excitement that I submit my resignation to become the new superintendent of Sidney City Schools effective July 31, 2018,” Humble wrote. “I have and will always be proud to be a Panther.” During a special meeting Thursday evening, the Sydney Board of Education voted unanimously to hire Humble as new superintendent. Plain City Village Council is moving forward with a plan to help fix the clock tower building. At a meeting this week, the council authorized Village Solicitor Paul Lafayette to begin conversations with Tammy Redmond, owner of the clock tower building at 101 S. Chillicothe St. The actual clock tower is owned by the village, but sits on top of Redmond’s building. Redmond, owner of Tique-Tock, has twice asked council to help her repair damage to her building.
