Fairbanks High School head volleyball coach Ed Marsman reached a milestone on Monday.
The Lady Panthers defeated Central Crossing, 25-18, 26-24, 25-14, on the Comets’ home court.
The victory, which put the Lady Panthers’ record at 9-3, was Marsman’s 600th of his coaching career.
“I was really impressed with the way our girls dominated a Division I team which had two girls in the 5-10 range and three others more than 6-1, all of whom were strong hitters,” said Marsman. “I have been fortunate to have been able to coach many players like ours over the years, bringing me to this milestone.”
Stats for the match were as follows:
-Kaidie Carstensen: 13 kills, five aces, three blocks;
-Taylar Sphapmixay: 15 serves, 12 points, 13 assists;
-Cassie Lamb: 38 sets, 13 assists;
-Lizzie Nicol: 11 points, 15 serves;
-Jayda Rausch: six attacks, six kills;
-Brianne Bosworth: six attacks, three kills;
-Emma Griffey: nine attacks, five kills, four blocks;
-Anna Higbee: 10 points, 11 attacks, four kills;
-Olivia Vollrath: 23 passes, five serves.
Bunsold teams sweep
Marysville’s seventh and eighth-grade Blue spikers defeated Worthington Kilbourne.
The seventh-grade won 25-9, 21-25, 25-8.
Leading the Monarchs were Bella Hackett with 11 aces and Leah Powers with eight.
Danika Doren had four kills.
The eighth-grade triumphed, 25-21, 25-11.
Ella Morris has 11 aces and Abby Stinemetz finished with eight.
Elle Martter ran the back row for 12 digs.
Morris notched eight kills.
The Red volleyball team defeated Hilliard Heritage 23-25, 25-10, 25-23.
Laila Heilshorn had four kills, while Kennedy Yurkovich had five aces.
