The cold and windy weather conditions may have hampered the athletes on Friday at the 57th annual Virg Rankin Invitational at North Union.
However, it did not bother Big Walnut that much as the Eagles earned a double victory in the 17-team meet.
They totaled 157.5 points in the boys meet, leading second-place Springfield Shawnee by 51.5 points, and 147 points in the girls meet with Jonathan Alder finishing second with 112.
Big Walnut scored at least one point in every event competed and reached double digits in 17 of them.
The windy conditions forced the pole vault to be canceled.
In addition to finishing second in the girls meet, Jonathan Alder was third in the boys meet with 80 points.
Fairbanks finished third in the girls meet (80) and was 13th in the boys meet (9).
The North Union girls were fifth (51.5) and the boys team was sixth (31.5).
Rachael Hoover of Fairbanks was the top area athlete,
She won the 400 (1:01.64) and the 800 (2:23.10) and joined Charley Shope, Alexis Wojcehowkis and Molly Thrush to finish second in the 4×400 (4:22.70).
North Union’s Gabby Lindsey set a school record in winning the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 3 inches. Lindsey broke a record that was set by Rozy Kissling, who went 17-3.5 in 1989.
Lindsey also was second in the 200 (27.18) and teamed with Lauren Hall, Savannah Amstutz and Kennedy Ludwig to finish fourth in the 4×800 (11:11.62).
