North Union has one wrestler still in the race for a district title.
Trace Williams, 113 pounds, has worked his way to the Division III district semifinals after winning his first match against Alex Riddle of Adena by pinfall. Williams followed with a win over T.J. Proctor of Malvern by pinfall. Williams will face Daxton Chase of Pleasant today.
North Union’s wrestling team currently stands in 13th place during the Division III district at Coshocton High School.
The Wildcats have tallied 13 points.
Fairbanks has notched 11 points and stands in 34th place of the 58-team event.
Sandy Valley leads after the first day of competition with 85 points, while Barnesville is in second with 71.5.
FHS heavyweight Billy Reed-Bodey won both of his matches by pinfalls. As a result, he is still contending for a district crown.
He opened the tournament with a 3:28 pin over Chesapeake’s Nick Burns.
Reed-Bodey’s quarterfinal bout resulted in a 1:07 pin over Ezekiel Bruney of Martin’s Ferry.
Reed-Bodey will tangle with Drew Harris of Alexander High School today in the semifinals.
The Wildcats’ Caleb Isler, 145 pounds, is also still wrestling for a state-qualifying spot.
Isler lost his opening round bout to Laramie Giesey of Shenandoah by a pin.
However, in the consolation bracket, Isler has found his stride.
He notched a 4-3 decision over Brayden Harris of Zane Trace and a 7-6 verdict over Andrew Osman of Shadyside.
Isler will face off against Lane Cline of Waterford in the consolation quarterfinals.
North Union’s Zack Ellis (120) and Casey Clark (126) also competed at the district event.
Ellis has been knocked out of the tournament after suffering losses to Johnny Walker of Malvern and Corbyn Browning of Crooksville.
Clark will also not continue in the tournament after losing to Andrew Huck of River Valley and Seth Armstrong of Sandy Valley.
Fairbanks’ other wrestler was Tucker Green (195).
Green was pinned in his opening match by Starr Kelley of Westfall. The bout ended at the 3:02 mark.
The FHS grappler was eliminated from further competition during the first consolation round.
He was pinned by Orion Smith of Barnesville in 2:24.
Triad sent a pair of wrestlers to the Division III Southwest District meet at Troy’s Hobart Arena.
Isiah Leasure is wrestling at 185 pounds, while Thomas Ford is representing the Cardinals at 195 pounds.
Leasure is still in the hunt for a district title after claiming victories over Noah Brown of Versailles by pinfall and Gage Wireman of Allen East by a 15-9 decision. Leasure will face Lane Medford of Indian Lake in the championship semifinals today.
Ford was eliminated from the tournament after losing his first two matches.
He fell to Ezra Jones of Columbus Grove and Andrew Hatter of Williamsburg.
The D-III district matches will conclude today.
